In this position, you are responsible for providing cost and material estimates, draw up projected budgets, and work alongside a team, noting any design changes and their effect on cost. To be successful as a quantity surveyor, you should have a methodical approach and superb interpersonal skills.

DUTIES
- Price/forecast the cost of the different materials needed for a project
- Assist with the preparation of tender documents, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities and other documentation
- Track changes to the design and/or installation work and adjust budget projections accordingly
- Procure or agree the services of contractors and/or subcontractors who work on the construction of the project
- Measure and value the work done on site
- Liaise with customers and other construction professionals, such as site managers, project managers and site engineers
- Select and/or source construction materials
- Write reports
- Negotiate with various contractors and vendors
- Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with external and internal stakeholders
- Travel to various sites as required
SKILLS
- Strong attention to detail
- Good understanding of quality control principles
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- A good working knowledge of MS Excel and the ability to learn how to use specialist software
- Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work in a team
- The ability to negotiate
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12
- Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying or Engineering
- Construction estimating is advantageous
